This estate was originally built in 1790. In 1970 the building was extended and refurbished as a restaurant. In 1995 the building became unoccupied and a new use for the building was needed to be found. In collaboration with the historical society department of the local government, we created a design project that retained the exterior appearance of typical farmhouses in the region. The interior incorporates five apartments, four of which area accessed from a common interior hallway. The house is divided vertically, so that every apartment has more of a ‘home’ feeling than that of an apartment. Existing historic building elements such as wooden ceilings and fireplaces have been retained and integrated in the open floor plan concept.
