Master Plan Kabul University Afghanistan – UNOPS

Kabul, Afghanistan

The efficient sustainable support for the development of the infrastructure of the Kabul University required a structural master plan.

The present lay-out of the premises of Kabul University (KU), a picturesque campus of 9.3 hectares, has an enormous potential for improvement.
The existing buildings (approximately 110.000 sqm) were built in different periods. The oldest ones are from the 1930s, while most of the other faculties and dormitories were constructed between 1965 and 1972. Most of the faculties still need general renovation and extensions.

The university compound boasts an impressively designed green park landscape. Dating back to the sixties, this master plan, drafted by American engineers, was never finalized.

The project included the design of the “master plan” based on the existing infrastructure and the assessment of the existing buildings. Furthermore, the project consists of coordinating the implementation of the new infrastructure. The project encompassed the coordination of activities dealing with construction and rehabilitation, as well as for the organizational coordination between Kabul University, stakeholders, ministries, and the donors.
